Emergency

Ch. 11:Emergency

I test the limits of my powers for the rest of the day. I realise I can touch the surface of a person's thought if I visualise their face and name in mind, but it took a toll on me to do that.
The next day, I look for Madison to ask for her help. She comes along with another friend of hers.
“Hi Ares. I've heard so much about you from Madison” the stranger said to me
I look at Madison in confusion. I haven't heard a word about the stranger and I wasn't sure what she had heard of me.
“She knows about how you saved Adi. She was away for some pack business at the time” Madison clarifies.
“Ohh” I said and finally nodded in greeting to her.
“This is Isabelle” she said pointing to her friend who waved at the mention of her name
“Hi,” I said to her. “I need your help,” I said, turning back to Madison.
The urgency in my voice makes her respond seriously. “Sure. What do you need?” She said
“I need new clothes. Can you show me to the store to get some things? I noticed I don't have the proper attire to train in.” I inform her
“Oh that's easy. Alpha owns his own clothing company. You can just ask him to send someone over with some things” she said
“What company?” I asked. It was rare for werewolves to run their own company since we lived closer to the humans, we have always gone into the main towns to get the necessities.
She mentions a well known brand and shocks the hell out of me. The brand wasn't just famous in the werewolf world, it was famous in the human world also. It was listed to be among the top three thriving companies by humans.
I swallowed hard before I spoke “Okay. Please where is Jason?” I asked them both.
I knew I could easily tap into his mind and ask, but I needed an excuse to see his face.
“In his office. He's attending to some pack business.” Isabelle answered
I thanked her and headed down to his office. I informed him of my request and offered to pay, to which he refused. He made a call and instructed someone to bring over some clothes in thirty minutes.
Since the person was coming over to the pack, he or she was either a pack member or a human that knows we exist amongst them.
At exactly thirty minutes, I hear a knock on the door.
“Hi, it's Cole here. I'm here to deliver your clothes” the voice rang out from behind the door.
“Thank you” I said after receiving the clothes from Cole, who looked like a male version of Madison.
“Alpha sent your measurements, please confirm if it fits” he said politely
I stood there wondering how Jason knew my measurements. I took a look at each clothe and confirmed they were my size before he finally left.
I pack my hair into a High ponytail and change into the sports wear and head down.
I hesitate before I mind linking with Jason “Hi, Jason. Where do I head to, to meet Carlton?” I asked
“Hello beautiful.” My cheeks heat up and I feel butterflies swarm my stomach at his words. “Just wait outside the door. I'll ask him to come pick you up and when you are done, I'll come pick you up myself” he said
“Okay” I do as he instructed and wait outside for Carlton. The tranquillity of the air gets ruined by Allison.
“I thought you were just a guest. Why aren't you leaving?” she asked with contempt.
I ignore her hoping she'd get the message and leave, but no, she pesters me even more.
“You can just tell me if you need some motivation to get you to leave. I'm happy to oblige” Allison said in a sinister voice.
“You know if you don't speak, no one will think you are mute” I retort rolling my eyes at her
“The longer you stay here, the more everyone forgets you are a rogue,” she said taking a threatening step towards me “but don't think I've forgotten” she whispered the last part
“Good for you. You have a retentive memory” I said, my voice laced with sarcasm. Totally ignoring her attempt to get a rise out of me “I would very much appreciate it if you leave my personal space”
She doesn't step back until we both hear the sound of crunching gravel. I assumed the person coming must be Carlton.
Just before his car came to a halt, she leaned in and whispered in my ear. “I know what you are. Watch your back.” She smirked and turned to wave at the car before she left.
I remain standing wondering what she knew. The sound of the car door opening distracts me. I make a mental note to inform Jason and Josh later. We can never be too careful.
“Ares?” The deep baritone called out to me
“Carlton” I nod in greeting and he nods right back.
“Get in the car.”
On the car ride over, I visualise Allison's face and try to get into her thoughts to see what she knew, but no matter how much I probed, her thoughts were well guided. She formed a wall between her important thoughts and surface thought.
I could only see what she thought of Jason. Her attraction and one sided love for him. I saw how she held herself at a pedestal, believing she's better than anyone else and I saw what she thought of me.
She thought of me as a leech who was here to steal Jason and shake her position as the top dog, but no matter how hard I tried, I saw nothing of what she might have heard or what she knew. Her wall was solid and strong.
I come back to the present and notice Carlton had driven for thirty minutes to a secluded part of the pack. We were surrounded by towering trees. There was an open ground and I could hear the distant sound of running water from a stream nearby. The sound was calming.
“Alpha said you are a good runner.” He said as we alighted. I nod in confirmation
“I won't know for sure until I see it for myself” he said “I am tasked to train your human form alone, which means you will get more heat than you can handle”
“I'm ready,” I said as I stood at attention.
“I hope you can still keep that positive attitude after we are done” he replied impassively.
His emotionless face almost scares me to run for the hills, but I'm not one to quit.
