Ch. 15:Promise to have less fun.
Chapter- Promise to have less fun
ALEXIS’S POV
“Hey, what did that guy wanted to talk with you?” Matt asked as soon as I sat in my seat, everyone waiting for my reply.
“He wanted me to apply for the post of his secretary. Since I am such a sincere child with the least points, he wanted to give me another chance to improve my grades.” I made up the reason, knowing all too well that this was something that these guys will easily believe, given how I was short on credit points.
“And? Did you agree with his arrangement?” Matt asked with a squinted look on his face.
“What? Do you think I would agree with that? Don’t you guys know me enough? I got those demerit points because I was busy having the time of my life. I am sure he will try to make my life hell if I agree to become his secretary and won’t even allow me to take leave as I want.” I paused before looking at Matt and others.
“What more, I am afraid that he has fallen for my charms. What if he turns out to be a creep? I mean, think about it. I am not the only person who has fewer credit points. Take Ash, for instance? But rather than voting or asking in the class about it, he took me out. Don’t you find it a bit fishy?” I asked, trying to make them look at the truth that wasn’t even true.
He wants to be a teacher in this University just to make my life hell, right? I will make sure that these students disrespect him as much they can and make his life full of troubles in return.
“Alexis! Come out of the class, this instant.” I heard Chancellor’s angry voice, making me look at him with a tired look of my own.
“See, he even made the chancellor talk to me about the same thing, or he could’ve scolded me in front of all of you like he always does. No?” I asked everyone before leaving the class, satisfied that I was able to get the reaction I was aiming for.
“You can start with what you’ve called me here for. You wanted to scold me for what I did earlier. Right?” I asked the Chancellor, who looked at me for a moment before sighing out loud.
“Why do you always put me in such a tough situation, Alexis?” He asked, patting my head, making me roll my eyes at him.
“How many times do I have to tell you to not pat my head? I am not a cat or your dog. And yes, I did it deliberately. Who asked you to tell him that I was your most sincere child and putting me in a spot there?” I asked, looking him up and down.
“I did it because it could’ve helped you in gaining your points back. I wanted to help-” He started before I decided to cut him off.
“I have already mentioned that I am not here to graduate with flying colors and become a topper. I just want a reason to stay at this University because I think it is fun. And I think I have enough points to sustain this year without failing the semester.” I said, hoping I made my point clear to him this time.
“Why are you spoiling your life, dear? You have such a brilliant IQ, your good grades and the number of olympiads you clear just for fun, you will be able to do your masters from a very reputed University. Not to mention the high-end paying job you will get. It’s a dream of soo many students, and when you are offered this opportunity, you are wasting it like this for this short-term fun.” The chancellor said, making me look at him with squinted brows.
If only he knew the truth about my existence, then he wouldn’t have been saying things like this.
If only the reality of my life was as easy as he mentioned just now. Sometimes, I think how good it would’ve been if I would’ve born as a human in the first place. Then all this hiding from everyone and this hassle wouldn’t have been in the first place.
Besides, I am no less than a human with healing powers, am I? I thought, smiling at my own life.
“I understand your words. I will try to concentrate on having less fun from now on.” I told the chancellor, and in return, he just nodded his head before leaving towards his office.
Calling Matt, I waited for him to pick up the phone.
“Hello?”
“I got caught. They know that I am lantern. I haven’t told anything else, but they have warned me to not go out of the territory until they investigate my case.” I said everything in a single breath.
“It’s okay. You live there for the time being. Besides, you weren’t planning to go anywhere. I will try to find the mole in the council till then. I want to know who is daring enough to leak such information.” Matt said before ending the call.
Looking at my phone in my hand, I made a quick to-do list, groaning when things kept piling up.
I have to go back to my forest house that is around an hour away from here.
And then that bonfire party that I have agreed to, for which I’ll have to come back here in the city. Two hours wasted just in traveling? And how can I forget about the fact that my fridge must be empty and I’ll have to go shopping too? And did I mention that I’ll have to clean that house too because last time I left it vacated for a few days, all I could see was cobwebs and different kinds of insects everywhere?
‘That I must mention, you used very brilliantly in your experiments.’ Ariana butted in, making me roll my eyes at her.
Does she not get my point? For using those insects in my experiments, I’ll have to pick them and then put them in a jar neatly too. In short, cleaning!
Well, let’s start with the day that has already tuned bad enough for me.
