Ch. 22:Friendship permitted
Chapter-18
ALEXIS'S POV
"Don't look at me like that." I finally hissed after making a joke out of myself.
Peeping through my fingers at what I did, I closed my eyes again before groaning in my head. Just why Alexis? Why would you do something like that? Now I will never be able to look at him in the eyes the same as before.
"I am not looking at you in any way. It’s just you are too funny right now. Don't get the wrong meaning, but don't you think you should take responsibility for what you did?" Blake said, his eyes holding the amusement that was making it more difficult for me.
Is there a place where I can bury myself and hide forever to save myself from this embarrassing situation? I thought in my head before flailing my legs like a kid while sitting on the bench.
"No, sweetheart, there isn't," Blake said, and only then did I realized that I said those words aloud.
Things can't get less embarrassing for me, can they? I groaned before looking at Blake's wheatish chest, which was making me shy and calling me to touch it at the same time.
'Naughty brain, how can you think like that at a moment like this? He is out of our league. He will be the death of us, no pun intended, I mean it in a literal way.' I told my brain before opening my eyes, almost getting surprised when I saw him too close to myself.
"How do you want me to take responsibility for it?" I asked, rolling my eyes.
Honestly, he was beautiful and too alluring for me, but at the moment I seriously wanted to be out of here. I have embarrassed myself enough for a day. I didn’t want to add more to my embarrassment.
With that arrogant and amused smirk on his face, I knew he was about to ask something that would prove troublesome for me. His face was screaming nothing but trouble to me.
And wasn't he trouble for me? He has been bringing bad news since the moment he entered my life.
I was prepared for some outrageous words and demands from him, however, the thing that he asked was something I didn't expect.
"Become my friend. That's the most you can do for me at the moment. And honestly, I will be grateful if you agree to it. Don't worry, I won't pressurise you into this friendship. It's all up to you." He said, the expression in his eyes saying words that I didn't want to see.
Words like hope and loneliness. But how could that be? He is the beta of the strongest pack in the world.
Maybe that's just my delusion.
I have been turning quite delusional these days.
"Hey, Lex, Your bodyguard is here," Matt shouted from out of the class, making me widen my eyes as I looked at Blake, who was standing there with more than half of his chest exposed to me.
Turning his back completely towards Matt, Blake looked at me with an expression that said he got this covered, and I couldn’t be more grateful to him for it.
I was glad that Blake was now facing me, or his ripped shirt would've given some ideas to Matt that I don't even want to think about.
It wasn’t like I was afraid of Matt or something, I just didn’t want him to spread nasty rumors that weren’t true.
"I am coming," I shouted, making him nod before he left us alone.
"You can go. I'll handle things by myself." Blake said his usual nonchalant expression back on his face.
"How can I let you handle this alone when you are my friend? Friends don't leave their friends when they are in need." I commented, and I knew that this can become the worst decision in my life given the differences between him and me and keeping in mind all our conflicts.
However, something inside me was screaming to me to ease his pain.
My decision could be wrong for me, but the smile that flashed on his face when I said that was genuine, and honestly, that was the best thing I've seen today.
"Can you help me arrange these assignments according to the weeks? I want to look at students’ performance based on the topics and period." He said, and I was glad that he didn't bring this friendship thing again or how grateful he was because it would've become awkward for me.
Nodding at him, I took half of the bundle of the assignments before sitting on the first bench while he sat in the seat beside me with his bundle and both of us got busy arranging the papers.
After thirty minutes of rigorous work, I was finally done with my work.
"If that's all, then I am going to go now. I am hungry, and my friends must be waiting for me." I said, making him nod his head.
"So you've got yourself a bodyguard? For what? Protection from me?" He asked with an amused expression, though still immersed in his work.
"Not really. He is the brother of my friend, and I had to say something about his identity, so that's what I came up with. Besides, can someone really protect me from the wrath of the strongest Alpha in the world?" I asked, making him nod his head.
“I’ll protect you, don’t worry.” He said, looking up from his papers. His eyes holding a strange kind of promise.
“Well, of course, you’ll have to. Or people will call you a bad friend.” I chuckled, making him smile before I picked my bag and exited the class.
Remembering my bodyguard, what was Eric doing here? And how did he even came to know that I was studying at this university? Most importantly, how did he even find Matt in this big university?
Entering the cafeteria that belongs to our university, the first thing that I noticed was a strange crowd that was gathered up in the center of the room.
'What was going on here?' I thought, wanting to check it, but the grumbling of my stomach stopped me from going in towards it
Food was more important right now.
Spotting Audrey sitting alone on the table, which was very strange given how Shane is always glued to her side, I took my tray full of extravaganza amount of food towards her before placing it on the table with a little sound to get her attention.
"Where's Shane?"
"Oh Alexis, you are here," Audrey said, her eyes immediately beaming with happiness.
She was really like a ray of sunshine.
"You didn't answer my question. Where is he?"
"Oh, Shane? He is busy with Matt and your bodyguard over there. What was his name again?" She replied before sneaking a piece of French fries from my plate.
"Eric. And what are they doing there?" I asked, and it wasn't long before my question was answered when I saw Eric flexing his abs standing on the table.
Coughing on the milkshake that I was drinking, I looked at the site in horror before face palming myself.
Just what the hell is wrong with people around me?
