Ch. 21:Can we be friends?
Chapter-17
ALEXIS’S POV
I had thought that there was some time before my life will get screwed by the presence of Blake as my teacher, but I didn’t know how wrong I was in thinking that.
Today, entering the class, the first thing that I noticed was the rare silence of my classmates. The silence that was speaking a million words. Why? Because standing in front of me was none other than Blake, talking with the chancellor, who had a pleasant expression on his face.
“Look, Alexis is here. Alexis, sweetheart, you have been appointed as his student assistant. This is his first time teaching students like this, and with his own company, it might be hard for him to handle all of the stuff. I am trusting you on making things easy for him and help him with stuff, okay?” The chancellor said, looking at me with a hopeful expression.
“Sure. As you say, sir,” I mumbled incoherently before going back and sitting with Matt, who had an amused expression on his face, making me roll my eyes at him.
Someone is surely happy with my miseries. I thought before looking in the front, where after exchanging some more words with Blake, Chancellor left the class.
“Hello, everyone. I am Blake. You can call me Professor Blake or Mr. Blake, whatever suits you. I will be taking your Microbiology class, and today we will be discussing the microbes that are healthy for our body and those that are unhealthy for us.” He said, making me drift away into my own fantasy land as I looked at the handsome man in front of me, teaching the class with a serious expression on his face.
‘Now, who is the one ogling him?’ Ariana asked, and I just sighed loudly in response.
After a torturous one-hour lesson, it was finally my free time and I was more than happy to leave the class. Sprinting towards the exit of the class in a flash as soon as the bell rang, I was about to step out of the room, however, before I could do that, I was called by so-called Mr. Blake, and the happy mood that I had immediately dissipated in thin air.
“Can I have a moment with you, Miss Alexis?” Blake said, and having no other choice, I smiled stiffly before nodding my head.
“Enjoy your time being an assistant,” Matt commented, making me look at him sharply, which made him chuckle more than he already was.
“What is it, Professor Blake?” I asked, my voice dripping sarcasm.
“You don't like me, do you? From your expression it is clear that you hate me and would trade anything to not be in the same room as me,” Blake said, and I don’t know if it was just me, but I think I felt a sense of loneliness through his words and I couldn’t help but sigh.
It reminds me that I have been sighing a lot these days. Especially since the moment I've met Blake.
“Hate is a strong word to describe my feeling towards you. I don’t hate you. Dislike maybe? But definitely not hate. Given the fact how you can become the reason for my death and exile, I don’t have a particular reason to not dislike you.” I mumbled before sitting on the seat in the front row. Popping a candy in my mouth, I waited for him to finish his task so that we can talk about why did he exactly want me.
Looking at his back, which was turned to me while he was cleaning the board, I couldn't help but admire the beauty in front of me.
If we ignore the fact that he is kind of a threat to my survival, then he was indeed beautiful. Like a scene out from a movie that could be watched forever. And his voice was like a beautiful melody that I could listen to all day.
“Do you mean that if we keep this dispute of you living among humans aside, you don’t have a problem with me?” He asked, and for some reason, I felt like he was asking me something greater than what the words actually meant. Like he was hoping for me to give him a reason that he wanted to listen.
“I don’t see any other reason to not like you. Surely you look like a self-centered, obnoxiously egoistic cocky jerk, but I don’t think there is anything that I should dislike.” I said, smiling sweetly and lifting my head to look at him when he didn’t say anything in response for a good few seconds.
“You have a good way with words, I must say.” He said, rolling his eyes at me, making me smile more widely than earlier before he placed the duster on the table and walked towards me.
Sitting on the top of my bench, he gazed at me before flashing one of the most genuine smiles I have seen on his face.
“I can't promise you anything, but if I say that I’ll try my best to protect you from the Alpha’s wrath regarding the matter, will you become my friend? I don’t have many people here, and I would at least want a person I can trust. My alpha has sent me here as a punishment for my laziness, and I don’t have any other choice but to take upon both the jobs.” He said, looking me directly in the eyes.
His gaze, so deep that I felt like losing myself into it. What was this? Why was I feeling this way towards someone I barely know? Is Ariana right? Is all of this happening because of my hormones and because my heat was near?
“I can’t be your friend when I don’t know how long will I be here for. Once your Alpha announces his decision, I’ll be gone. I don’t stay at a place for long because I know that I have to suffice in this world alone, and I hate making fake short-term relationships just for benefits.” I said before taking my purse and standing.
“If that’s all, I will take my leave now,” I said, turning around to leave, however, before I could move another step, I stumbled on Blake’s extended legs, and I did one of the most shameful things in the world. I gripped his shirt to take support, causing the buttons of his shirt to come undone.
Looking at the wheat-colored, chiseled chest, I moved my eyes to Blake’s, and I wasn’t surprised when I saw an amused expression on his face.
Fuck my life!!
