Ch. 18:Enjoying the night
"Are you okay? You look a bit pale." Eric asked, stepping closer to me, making me take a step back involuntarily.
And being the lucky girl I was, I stumbled on the couch, falling face-first on the couch.
"I am okay," I said, raising a thumbs-up in the air.
"Yeah, I can see that. Here, let me help you." Eric said before pulling me up through my shoulders.
"My hair probably looks like a mess now," I mumbled, laughing at my miseries.
"They look pretty okay to me. You look beautiful." He said, his face only inches away from mine, and I don't know if it was just my delusion, but I think his eyes turned dark for a brief second.
Maybe I am watching and reading too many Rom-coms about werewolves that my head is filled with nothing but these romantic ideas. Nodding at my explanation, I stood straight, creating some distance between us.
"I umm… We are getting late." I said, wanting to ease the tension in the room.
"Sure, princess. Let's go." Eric said, making me roll my eyes before I looked at him sharply. He just did not call me that.
"Don't call me that," I said, more like hissed.
"Why not?"
"Because I don't like it."
"Well, you let Mark call you that."
"He is different."
"Well, he is my brother. I don't see a problem in that."
"He might be your brother, but you are not mine. And why are we even arguing on this? Just don't call me that," I said, which came out more like a child's whining.
"Well, okay sweetheart," Eric said, chuckling at my contorted face.
"Whatever. Get in the car." I said before taking a look at my house.
“You know, you are actually pretty easy to stay with. Not at all like how Mark described you.” Eric said, making me look at him briefly before I looked back in front.
“Now, what’s that supposed to mean? What did he say to you?” I asked, already knowing that it might not be something good.
“Well, he said that you are very grumpy and moody. He said not to disturb you when you are working on your experiments, or you will turn into a grim reaper and will rip the soul out of me. He also mentioned staying away from your food.” Eric said, making me chuckle.
“He is exaggerating things because of what happened last time when he stayed with me,” I said before taking a swift turn angrily.
After driving for more than an hour, we were finally at the destination of the beach, which coincidentally happened to be only a few kilometers away from Blake’s pack.
This makes me wonder if any of the werewolves will be at the party? I mean, it wasn’t a rare occurrence for werewolves to join such parties. Besides, it’s not a university party where only humans are allowed. Everyone in the locality is allowed to join these parties. Not to mention that werewolves always get a pass to join the party because of their hot and sexy bodies.
“Earth to Alexis. Are we going to go inside or just sit here?” Eric asked, bringing me out from my Lala land.
“Yeah, sorry for spacing out. Let’s go.” I said before turning off the engine and exiting the car.
Entering the party, I immediately spotted Audrey standing with Shane and couldn’t help but smile.
The tensions about the Alphas can wait. I need to loosen up a bit right now. With that in mind, I walked towards Audrey before tapping her shoulder.
I wanted to greet both of them, however, before she could turn around and I could say something, I was engulfed in a tight hug, making it hard for me to breathe properly.
“What the hell are you doing?” I heard an angry voice from behind me, and before I could say something, Shane was ripped off me.
Turning around, I looked at a serious-looking Eric, who was throwing daggers at Shane through his eyes.
“What the hell do you think you are doing, Eric?” I said before taking Shane’s hand and pulling him closer to myself.
For him, they might just be humans, but to me, they were more than a family.
“I am sorry, Alexis. I thought he was someone that you don’t know. Sorry, man.” Eric said to Shane, who just laughed it off before looking at me and hugging me again.
Looking behind Shane, my eyes meeting with Audrey, who had a weird look in her eyes while I was hugging Shane, I knew what she was thinking about.
“Shane, if you are done hugging her, can you give us a minute?” Audrey said before pulling me a bit away from the boys.
“I know what you are thinking about. There’s nothing like that between him and me, okay?” I said, making her roll her eyes before she glared at me.
“I swear nothing is going on between us. I have met the guy for the first time today. My friend has sent him as my bodyguard. He is responsible for my safety and nothing else.” I said again.
“Are you sure, he is just your bodyguard? Why do I smell something else cooking here?” Audrey asked, and when I didn’t say anything, she just huffed slightly before nodding her head.
“I don’t know when the day will come when I will be able to see your boyfriend. Are you thinking about becoming a monk or something?” Audrey said, making me chuckle before we joined the boy again.
“What did you both talked about?” Shane asked curiously as always.
“Girl’s talk,” Audrey said, making Shane roll his eyes.
This was one statement that Shane hated the most in the world and Audrey deliberately use these words to annoy him more.
“You guys always do that to me. I am not talking to you guys anymore.” Shane said, and Audrey looked at me before we both nodded our heads in agreement.
“No. Whatever you guys are thinking, drop it,” Shane shouted, however, his shouts were in vain when we took each of his hands in ours and pulled him towards the water before throwing him in that.
“What wrong did I do in my life to get such annoying friends like you.” He shouted when he surfaced again.
“We know you love us,” Audrey said, and all three of us laughed at his contorted face.
As I was laughing along with my friends, I felt a pringling sensation at my back as if someone was watching me.
Turning around, I looked towards the forest where I saw a silhouette of someone.
“Where are you looking, sweetheart?” I heard Eric’s voice in my ears, making me jump in surprise and before I could react to him, he threw me in the water, making Shane laugh as Audrey was pulled inside by Shane.
“You just not did that. No one can save you from me now.” I shouted, making Eric laugh before a game of chasing started as I started running behind him to get him into the water like all of us.
